A Distinctive Education
Applied Learning Experiences (ALEs) are academic, and non-academic, transformative learning experiences designed to engage students in active and reflective learning to further develop beyond-disciplinary skills and expand students’ perspectives of self, community, and global environments.
With the guidance and mentoring of faculty and staff, students will think critically and articulate the broader impact of these activities, and learn to articulate the value of their experiences. The result will be a distinctive collegiate experience that prepares the student well for life beyond college.
The Applied Learning Experiences (ALE) categories are:
- Service Learning
- Scholarly Activity
- Discipline Knowledge
- Cultural Enrichment
By successfully completing at least three of these approved activities across at least two categories, students will earn an ALE cord to wear at graduation.
The priority deadline for Fall 2021 ALE applications and renewal submissions is September 1, 2022.
Please remember all final ALE evaluation data should be submitted no later than noon on Friday, December 2, 2022. Please make sure to score student submissions in Canvas by this date.
Please note, ALEs with unsubmitted scores are not considered complete, and students will not receive recognition.
Attention Fall 2022 Graduates:
Any student needing to confirm ALE status for Fall 2022 graduation should submit the following information via email ([email protected]):
- Full Name
- UID (000XXXXXX)
- Titles, or course names, and instructors for the ALEs in question (when possible)
Please allow our staff up to 5 business days to process your ALE verification request. Once ALE status is verified, students who successfully completed a minimum of 3 ALEs are eligible to receive their ALE cord upon verification. Graduating students who complete their 3rd ALE during the semester of graduation will receive notification of completion via email at the end of the semester and will receive their cord prior to graduation.
