You may be thinking to yourself, “Tarleton has these things called priority dates that I am supposed to follow, but I don’t know what they are!” Don’t worry, we are here to explain a little bit more about these mysterious dates. We can promise one thing, after reading through this post you are most definitely going to want to get those “priority dates” written down!
At Tarleton State, we use the word priority date instead of deadline because we do not want our students to feel like they cannot submit something after the date has passed. A deadline usually means no late credit right? Well, even after our priority date has passed we still might grant you some late credit for say.
So what priority dates are we talking about and why are they important?
The college enrollment journey involves a lot of processes that are more first-come-first-serve. This is where our priority dates come into play.
Tarleton’s Priority Dates include:
FAFSA/TASFA Application Priority Date: May 1st
If you file your FAFSA and add Tarleton to your application (003631) by May 1st you will have a greater opportunity to receive Pell Grant Aid. This aid is more first-come-first-serve, so we encourage you to have this completed by then! With that being said, we will still take your FAFSA/TASFA application after the fact, but we would like to see you get the most out of your aid package!
Scholarship Application Priority Date: February 15th
Filling out the General Scholarship Application allows you to be considered for over 500 scholarships awarding over $7 million dollars! Our scholarship team will start reviewing and awarding the scholarship applications after the priority date of February 15th. Students are chosen on a first-come-first-serve basis, so have your application in for that first round of awards!
Housing Application Priority Date: January 16th
Your “crib” at college is one of the most important factors when choosing what school you want to pursue. By completing your housing application and paying the fee by January 16th, you will have priority for your housing assignment. Housing assignments fill up very quickly, so it is important to have yours in so you can go through our self-assign process. What is self-assign? It is the process of choosing your Residential Hall out of the choices available! By completing this early you can shop early for your residential hall, find your roommate, and more!
All in all, we do accept late credit but we strongly encourage you to meet these priority dates. Getting the most of our aid package, early consideration for scholarships, and priority housing options, are all important factors in your enrollment journey! If you are reading this and you still have a few more years before you attend Tarleton, don’t worry! We generally keep our priority dates the same each enrollment year.
