The College of Health Sciences and Human Services (CHSHS) at Tarleton State University serves 1,600 students enrolled in successful, established programs in counseling, medical lab sciences, nursing, public health, and social work.
Many of these programs are offered across the Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, and Stephenville campuses with some offered online via the Global Campus. After earning their degrees, our graduates fulfill crucial needs across Texas in human services professions and health science career paths.
The Counseling faculty truly care and mentor students while maintaining high academic standards. Counseling courses are offered online, in a hybrid format, or on evenings and weekends to meet the busy demands of career and family.
Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Public Health
Our laboratory education programs prepare students for well-paying and high demand health science careers in clinical laboratories. Our Public Health programs include Health Educator, Public Health Laboratory Scientist, and pre-graduate tracks.

Our nursing students have a 90.9% pass rate on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure (NCLEX) exams and are making a real impact on Texas healthcare.
Department of Social Work
Students enrolled in Tarleton’s Social Work program respond to the diverse needs of multicultural communities throughout North and Central Texas, with an emphasis on service to Hispanic, military, and rural populations. Providing employment opportunities in a variety of human services careers, social work graduates in Texas are eligible for licensure through our baccalaureate program (BSW degree) and graduate program (MSW degree).
Faculty engage with students in research and community-based projects, which form the foundation of our excellent curriculum. The profession of social work is guided by a Code of Ethics, with core values of service integrity, the importance of human relationships, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, and competence.
