2024-2025 FAFSA Soft Launch

  • Be aware of a soft launch with potential temporary access issues due to maintenance in January.
  • Full availability is expected in late Jan-Feb, allowing ample time to submit before the March 15th priority deadline.
  • While completing the form might still be possible, the FSA won’t transmit your FAFSA to institutions until late January.
  • After submission, a confirmation email will detail your submission date, estimated Student Aid Index (SAI), and potential Federal Pell Grant eligibility.
  • An email notification will be sent to you once your FAFSA Submission Summary becomes accessible for online viewing.

SAP

Tarleton’s Office of Financial Aid monitors each student receiving financial aid after the fall and spring semester to ensure that eligibility requirements are maintained. Students must maintain SAP to ensure continued financial support, please review the SAP requirements.

Attendance

Tarleton State University’s Office of Financial Aid actively monitors your attendance at specific periods to determine if you have demonstrated attendance in accordance with enrollment requirements.

Prior to Disbursement

Tarleton State University’s Office of Financial Aid will check your enrollment status prior to disbursement of any financial aid funds. Tarleton will adjust aid based on enrollment status (hours enrolled).

Official Census Date

The financial aid census date is the 12th day of the enrollment period. This means that if you are receiving Federal Pell Grant and you drop a class before the census date (12th day of the enrollment period) your Federal Pell Grant may be reduced. If you add a class following the census date, your Pell Grant will not be increased. You will receive notification via your go.tarleton.edu email if you will be subject to an adjustment.

Dropping a Course

All financial aid may be adjusted if you drop a course or add a course throughout the semester. Please review information about dropping a course.

Official and Unofficial Withdrawals

Tarleton State University’s Office of Financial Aid will adjust your financial aid if an official or unofficial withdrawal occurs.

Please carefully review information about official and unofficial withdrawals if you are considering withdrawing or dropping classes while receiving financial aid. If you are unsure about how this will impact your current or future financial aid, please visit us in-person to speak with an Advisor or email the Office of Financial Aid.

Financial Aid Overawards

Federal regulations require colleges to consider all educational financial assistance to be calculated in determining student eligibility. If it is determined an over award has occurred and needs to be resolved, it may result in funds being returned to an aid program and the student owing the University money.

Financial assistance includes:

  • Grants
  • Loans
  • Scholarships
  • Waivers, fellowships & assistantships
  • Work-Study
  • Specific Veteran educational benefits
  • Athletic Grants-In-Aid
  • Programs used to cover postsecondary educational expenses

An overaward will be caused when a student receives more aid than their:

  • Financial Need
  • Enrollment eligibility
  • Cost of Attendance

You will be notified to your go.tarleton.edu email if we have to adjust any financial aid due to an overaward.

Repeated Coursework

The Office of Financial Aid monitors courses that are repeated (retaken). You may repeat the course and receive financial aid until you’ve passed the course with a “D” or better. If you choose to repeat the course again (as a degree requirement or to boost your GPA) it can be counted for aid only one more time. However, all repeated coursework is accounted for in your SAP, regardless of the grade you receive.
