Texas Academy of Science 2022 Annual Meeting

February 25-27, 2022, The University of Houston-Clear Lake

Tarleton State University math professors Dr. Bryant Wyatt and Dr. Chris Mitchell and their students achieved recognitions and rewards at the Texas Academy of Science 2022 Annual Meeting, February 25-27, at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Dr. Chris Mitchell chaired the Mathematics and Computer Science Section of the conference.  

Dr. Bryant Wyatt was selected to chair the Physics and Engineering Section for the 2022-24 biennium.

Presentations:

Dr. Wyatt was the featured faculty oral presenter: “Silicon Building Silicon: Dynamic Modeling of Dust Crystal Formations in a Complex Plasma using NVIDIA GPUs.”

Cody Drolet, senior math major advised by Dr. Scott Cook: “Improving Recombination MCMC for Texas Political Redistricting.” Drolet won the Amir Moaz Award for Mathematics and Computer Science Oral Section for his presentation.

Dashon Mitchell, senior mathematics and electrical engineering major advised by Dr. Chris Mitchell: “A Mathematical Model for Onchocerciasis and Resistance in Treatment,” first place in the Biomedical Oral Section.

Aurod Ounsinegad, senior mathematics major advised by Dr. Chris Mitchell: “Dynamics of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Infection Rates: A Mathematical Approach,” third place in the Biomedical Oral Section.

Gavin McIntosh, junior mathematics major advised by Dr. Bryant Wyatt, poster presentation:  took first place with his poster presentation, “Supraventricular Tachycardia Study Using a Dynamic Computer-Generated Atrium,” top honors in poster awards.

Vianey Rangel, senior math major advised by Dr. Cook: “Making Unbiased Maps to Pass the Eyeball Test via MCMC Redistricting,” second place in poster awards

Avery Campbell, senior electrical engineering major advised by Dr. Wyatt, oral presentation: “Supraventricular Tachycardia Study Using a Dynamic Computer-Generated Atrium.”

Brandon Amerine, Graduate math student advised by Dr. Jesse Crawford: “Understanding Social Determinants of Health using Machine Learning Algorithm.”
