STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s Dr. Alejandro del Carmen has been appointed to the Federal Bar Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, effective through September 2023.

Founded in 1920, the FBA represents the federal legal profession and serves as a catalyst for communication between the bar and the bench and the private and public sectors. The association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee is composed of federal judges, practitioners and law students committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal community.

Dr. del Carmen is a Professor and the Associate Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Public Administration. He oversees the departments of Criminal Justice and Public Administration, along with several institutes of research and training.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be selected to serve on the FBA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee,” he said. “I look forward to the work that lies ahead while representing Tarleton State University.”

Dr. del Carmen has a PhD in criminology from Florida State University and has authored numerous articles and 10 books, including Racial Profiling in Policing: Beyond the Basics (Kendall Hunt Publishing, 2020).

He serves as a special master on behalf of the United States Courts in Puerto Rico’s police reform case. He received a Fulbright Specialist Program award from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board earlier this year after being named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and World Learning in 2018.

A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of nearly 17,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. True to Tarleton’s values of excellence, integrity and respect, academic programs emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
