STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Beginning today, portions of Ollie and Vanderbilt streets near the Tarleton State University campus in Stephenville will be closed to traffic for several weeks as part of the ongoing utility and infrastructure improvements project.

Contractors for Tarleton will install fencing around the construction zone today, July 20, and place signs as part of a traffic control plan that will require through-traffic to detour at the Ollie-Vanderbilt intersection, which will be closed for the duration of the project.

Work is expected to begin Monday, July 25 and be completed in mid-September. However, the Ollie-Vanderbilt intersection is expected to re-open ahead of Stephenville ISD’s first day of school on Aug. 23.

In addition to Ollie Street being closed at the Vanderbilt intersection, contractors will close a one block portion of North McIlhaney Street, north from West Sloan Street to Vanderbilt Street near St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. All through-traffic will be required to detour.

During the closure of Vanderbilt Street between Neblett and Ollie streets, residents of Bosque Crossing Apartments will have access to the complex’s parking garage via Neblett, except for a limited period estimated at 10 days from Aug. 14-24.

Work on the section of Vanderbilt Street near the parking garage entrance is scheduled to be completed prior to returning student move-in days at Tarleton, beginning Aug. 27.

The Tarleton Police & Parking Office will provide temporary residential “red zone” parking permits to all students, housing staff and apartment complex employees so they may use nearby Lot P-23, or any other residential parking lot on campus during the brief period restricting access of the Bosque Crossing parking garage.

Residents of Bosque Crossing Apartments who need a temporary parking permit may go to the Tarleton Police & Parking Office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The temporary street closures are part of a multi-phase project to expand pedestrian walkways along Lillian, Vanderbilt and other campus core streets. At the same time, utility improvements will eliminate flooding and stormwater drainage issues and enhance campus lighting.

Scheduled for completion in November 2017, the project will bring new beauty and aesthetics to the Tarleton campus, and improve safety for pedestrians within the campus core.
