STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University Athletics has announced Texan football’s 11-game schedule for the 2017 season that is set to kick off on Sept. 2 with a trip to Cleveland, Miss.

“We’re excited about the schedule we have in front of us,” said Todd Whitten, who is set to begin his eighth season this fall as the head coach of the Texans. “It will be a huge challenge for us, as it is every year when you play in the Lone Star Conference. We’ll work hard before we open on the road and then try to get better every week after that.”

The Texans will make their season debut at McCool Field in Cleveland, Miss., with a road trip to Delta State—a perennial power within the Gulf South Conference—at 6 p.m. Tarleton will return to Stephenville the following week for its home opener on Sept. 9 against Oklahoma Panhandle at 7 p.m.

In week No. 3, Tarleton will begin Lone Star Conference play with a trip to Angelo State on Sept. 16.

Other notable dates include Sept. 23 when Tarleton hosts West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Family Weekend, and Oct. 28 when the Texans welcome Western Oregon at 6 p.m. for the annual Homecoming game at Memorial Stadium. The season finale features Tarleton hosting Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night.
