Tarleton’s Tallach Earns Top TAHPERD Honor

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University Professor Dr. Tom Tallach has received the College Administrator of the Year Award from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (TAHPERD).  

In his five years as head of the Department of Sport Science in the School of Kinesiology, the department has achieved record enrollment and assembled a strong faculty. He developed the BS in sport management degree and the BAAS in kinesiology and has led the expansion of departmental programming to Tarleton-Fort Worth and the Texas A&M System’s RELLIS Academic Alliance in Bryan. 

His contributions to education include coaching intercollegiate basketball, college teaching, intercollegiate athletics administration, secondary education administration and college academic administration.

An advocate for experiential learning, he has helped incorporate applied learning throughout the curricula. Earlier this year, he was awarded a $250,000 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that provided direct financial support to Tarleton students completing internships in the community. 

Dr. Tallach has served as Chair of the Sport Management Section of TAHPERD’s College Committee and is a regular presenter at the organization’s conventions and summer conferences. He has been a TAHPERD member for nearly 30 years.

The Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, founded in 1923, is a not-for-profit professional organization of individuals in those allied fields. More than 3,100 professional and student members serve the teaching profession in early childhood environments through college.
