Theatre at Tarleton presents Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Theatre at Tarleton presents a new take on William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” Nov. 6-10 in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

Curtain rises at 7:30 each night. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens, children and Tarleton faculty and staff; and $5 for Tarleton students. The box office opens Oct. 29 open from 2 to 4 p.m. weekdays through the run of the show. The box office number is 254-968-9634.

The Tarleton production of this Shakespearean classic is set in New York during the 1930s, full of gangsters and mob bosses. A brave general named Macbeth, played by Tyson Zinsmeyer, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become king.

Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan, played by Curtis Price, and takes the throne for himself. Macbeth is then wracked with guilt and paranoia.

Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, played by Cheyenne Nash, into the realms of madness and death.

Directed by Tarleton professor of theater Prudence Jones, the cast also includes Caleb Badgley as Malcolm, Noah Luce as Donalbain/first murderer, Tyler Krumm as Banquo, Justin Fite as Macduff and Kaleb Ferguson as Lennox.

Additionally, Chris Baldock appears as Rosse; Cedric Kimble-Thomas as Menteth/Porter; Andres Vasquez as Angus/third murderer; Robby Green as Cathness/Siward, Earl of Northumberland; John Miller as Fleance/Young Siward; and Cameron Hardee as Seyton/old man.

Rounding out the cast are Joel Finney as son to Macduff; Gabe Escoto as English doctor/sergeant; Christian Scott as second murderer/doctor of physic; Rachel Thompson as Lady Macduff; Rylie Fischer as gentlewoman/servant; Toni Meyers as Hecate; Amelia Finney as first apparition; Jayden Finney as second apparition; Sarah McGrath as third apparition; Kristen Klay as messenger; and Jessie Patterson as lord.

Bailey Brewer, Kimber Bills, Cathryn D’Amore, Vivian Alonso, Eme Looney and Natalie Bowles are witches; and Hardee, Bowles, Meyers, Clay, Patterson, Alonso, Looney, Scott and Fischer all appear as soldiers, attendants, officers and servants.

Jessica Privett is in charge of lighting design, Marcos Garcia is the sound designer and April Harlen, Bailey Brewer and Devon Kleine are costume and hair and make-up designers.

Tarleton faculty members Carol Stavish and Mark Holtorf are the scenic designer, and projections designer and weapons specialist, respectively.
