STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Jolena Waddell has been appointed associate dean for Tarleton State University’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (COAES), effective Sept. 1.

“I am honored to take on this leadership role in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,” she said. “The college is home to more than 2,000 current students studying various fields in agriculture and natural resources. It is an exciting time to be a Tarleton Texan, and I look forward to this opportunity.”

Waddell has served as an associate professor in animal science and veterinary technology at Tarleton since 2014 and was previously an assistant professor in animal sciences at Purdue University, where she earned a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in muscle stem cell biology.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal and food science and a master’s in animal growth and development from Texas Tech.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Waddell join our leadership team,” said COAES Dean Steve Damron. “She brings new ideas to our college leadership, is very student-focused, enjoys enthusiastic support from our student body, staff and faculty, and is well known and respected across Tarleton. She will help us provide students with new and exciting opportunities.”

One of the new initiatives coming from Waddell’s office this year is a college-wide student council. The council will unite various organizations representing COAES as well as provide more leadership opportunities for students.

Waddell will work alongside current Associate Dean David Drueckhammer for the 2018 school year.
